Gallery Talk - Echoes & Undercurrents
Artists David Dawangyumptewa and Debra Edgerton, along with Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) Curator of Fine Arts Alan Pertersen, discuss the artists' latest exhibition opening March 7 at MNA. Echoes and Undercurrents conveys the importance of oral tradition and narrative in the creation of cultural and personal identity. Dawangyumptewa's mixed-media paintings depict symbolic and mystical imagery central in Hopi narratives, while Edgerton's richly textured and intricate scrolls synthesize Japanese and African-American nonlinear storytelling.
