Kendrick St.\, Flagstaff. Come learn the secrets of turning water and sugar into skulls\, which you can then decorate to honor your departed loved ones during upcoming D a de los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebrations. Some stories link the creation of the sugar skulls to the Spanish conquest of Mexico\, the production of sugar cane and then the arrival of European missionaries\, who taught sugar skull art to the indigenous population in the 17th century. Class led by Flagstaff Nuestras Ra ces\, presenters of the annual Celebraciones de la Gente at the Museum of Northern Arizona (Oct. 22-23). The cost is $10 for a completed sugar skull and decorating supplies.
