NAU Department of Theatre presents 'Tartuffe'
Tartuffe is about a scoundrel who says he is a man of God, but instead is an imposter who almost destroys a family. A series of events reveal his greedy motives. In the 1990s, McGeever began collaborating with writer Kristen Le Pine to update the story to reflect the religious hypocrisy being found in American televangelism. For this production, they adapted it again to current times, adding themes of technology and social media, to demonstrate society’s ambivalence. You can follow the character Tartuffe on social media at @realtartuffe. Audiences will be asked to keep their phones on!
Almost 70 students are bringing the production to stage, including 17 actors. Students are getting real-world experiences in lighting design, technical direction, props, costume design, house management and public relations.
Tartuffe is in the Clifford E. White Theater at 7:30 p.m. April 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28, and at 2 p.m. April 22 and 29. Ticketed event. Community parking designation for Thursday performance.
