25 Years of Science Technology in Archaeology
In the 25 years since the first Flagstaff Festival of Science, technological advances have revolutionized the practice of archaeology, as well as the rest of society. From something as simple as a spreadsheet to the highly sophisticated portable X-ray fluorescent unit, archaeologists have more time and analytical potential available to them than was ever dreamed of in 1989. Technology now exists that allows us to identify the type of animal killed by a projectile point, the specific origin of the obsidian from which the point was made, the time period when it was created, and the cultural background of the hunter who made it. This talk will discuss these new techniques and some of the startling advances they have produced. Free. 928-779-4395
