In Retrospect: Growing Our Own Artists
Fine art reflecting the development of Southwest art and the influence of the museum on art of the region As one of the oldest art institutions in Arizona, the Museum of Northern Arizona fine art collection reflects the development of Southwest art. MNA also sometimes influenced the art of the region, through promoting artists and presenting Native American festivals. This exhibition brings out highlights from the museum collection and shows how the Native American festivals and interests of museum co-founder Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton have influenced the practice of collecting works for the Fine Art collection and have helped to develop many artists’ careers.
