Wednesday Night Blues at Charly's
The NAZBA Wednesday Night Blues at Charly's has a great lineup for April! Kicking off the first Wednesday is Flagstaff's own Mother Road Band, featuring Sammy Mac on harp and vocals and Larry Cznarecki on guitar and vocals. Always an entertaining front duo, they will be joined by their bass player, Jerome. You'll hear some blues standards, some and some fun funky eclectic original tunes, all delivered in their own entertaining, quirky style. They are one of my favorites!
Next up from the PHX area, by way of the Netherlands, is a young upcoming guitarist and vocalist, Rinus Rino Pauel. It is cool to see younger players taking up the Blues and Rinus does no disappoint. Lots of energy on stage and some fancy guitar playing to boot! Come see this European blues influenced style for a glimpse into the future of blues players now in the US.
The middle of the month Wednesday features another young and upcoming player from Tucson, Nico Barberan! Another international influenced blues player, this time from Chile! I'm not sure there is such a thing as a blues bossa nova but if there is, you'll hear it along with more traditional blues tunes! Nico is a talented guitarist and vocalist and is a definite crowd pleaser!
Next up is the Prescott pairing of Dennis Herrera and Chicago Bob. Both have new albums out and Dennis's album "Four" was a candidate for the Best Self-Produced album last year at the Memphis Blues Foundation. Bob's album is also an excellent representation of the Chicago Blues style. You will hear wonderful representations of both Texas style blues from Dennis and Chicago style from Bob! What a great combination for an evening of entertainment!
Rounding out the month of April from PHX is guitar extraordinaire, Chuck Hall! Chuck is a well-known player among the blues scene throughout Arizona and beyond, bringing some amazingly vibrant guitar licks to is wide repertoire of music. Chuck has been involved in Blues at Charly's for many years and we are happy to have him featured and look forward to his show!
We open the show at 7PM with the featured artist and then invite jammers to the stage for the second set and beyond. Come early and get your favorite table! Charly's has excellent staff with Jules and Whitney anticipating your every need! A nice variety of food is offered, and you won't have a bad dish at Charly's! Jammers are asked to please bring a small amp and/or mic to help with a quick stage set up. Thanks!
