Assistant Cook – Position Description
Position Purpose
The Assistant Cook supports the Head Cook in preparing meals for Lodge events, dinners, and rentals. This role focuses on food preparation, cooking support, kitchen cleanliness, and helping ensure meals are delivered on time and to standard.
Core Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking Support
- Prepare ingredients as directed by the Head Cook (chopping, slicing, portioning, etc.).
- Assist with cooking using grills, ovens, fryers, and other kitchen equipment.
- Monitor food while cooking and follow instructions for stirring, turning, or adjusting heat.
- Assemble and plate dishes according to Lodge standards.
- Ensure meals are delivered on time during events and dinners.
Kitchen Setup and Organization
- Set up workstations with necessary ingredients, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Assist with organizing storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers.
Cleanliness and Sanitation
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly kitchen throughout the shift.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment as needed.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items.
Event Support
- Support the Head Cook during Hall and Lounge events.
- Assist with serving food when required.
- Help with kitchen cleanup after events, ensuring the space is left in proper condition.
Inventory and Supplies
- Notify the Head Cook when ingredients or supplies are running low.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
- Help maintain accurate stock rotation (FIFO).
Teamwork and Communication
- Follow instructions from the Head Cook promptly and accurately.
- Communicate any issues, delays, or concerns immediately.
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude with staff, volunteers, and members.
Performance Expectations (Quarterly Review Metrics)
- Food prep is accurate, timely, and consistent.
- Kitchen remains clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Tasks are completed as assigned by the Head Cook.
- Meals are delivered on time during events and dinners.
- Positive teamwork and communication with the Head Cook and staff.
- No repeated issues with sanitation, professionalism, or timeliness.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience as a cook or kitchen assistant preferred.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow all sanitation and safety procedures.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to lift 25–40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

- Works closely with: Event Manager, Bar Manager, Volunteers

Beginning Hourly wage is $18.50 per hour.
