Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition Empowers Taxpayers to Support Local Nonprofits
FLAGSTAFF, AZ –
Since 2013, Flagstaff nonprofit organizations have come together through the Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition to amplify the impact of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit and the Arizona Charitable Foster Care Tax Credit. By working collaboratively, local organizations have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support vital community programs. In their first year, coalition members collectively raised $258,500. In recent years, that amount has grown to average nearly $2 million annually. This local investment helps Flagstaff area nonprofits meet the basic needs of low-income households in our community, providing a social safety net for those in need.
“The Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition invites you to tell your taxes where to go,” said Cindy Payne, Executive Director of Cancer Support Community Northern Arizona. “Cancer Support Community Arizona raises 100% of the funding required to offer support and community to those impacted by cancer at no cost to the participant. Because of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit option, state taxpayers can designate up to $470 as an individual or $938 as a couple and have the dollar-for-dollar amount deducted from their Arizona state tax liability. This benefits the local nonprofit receiving the donation and it benefits the taxpayer because you determine the nonprofit(s) that will receive your donation. Donors love this option, nonprofits appreciate the partnership, and participants get the services they need at no cost. I call that a WIN-WIN-WIN. Be sure to donate today.”
The Arizona Charitable Tax Credit allows taxpayers to contribute to qualifying nonprofit organizations and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit, up to $470 for individuals and $938 for couples filing jointly. These donations can be made in addition to other Arizona tax credits, such as the Public School and Foster Care Tax Credits, maximizing taxpayers’ ability to support multiple initiatives.
"The Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition helps create collective awareness of the great benefit offered by the state of Arizona, allowing taxpayers to directly allocate their tax dollars to eligible nonprofit organizations in their local community" said Josh England, Director of Finance for Flagstaff Shelter Services.
A qualifying charitable organization is a charity that is a 501(c)(3) or a community action agency that spends at least 50% of its budget on services to Arizona residents who either receive temporary assistance for needy families (TANF) benefits, are low-income residents whose household income is less than 150% of the federal poverty level, or are chronically ill or children with a physical disability. The charity must also show that they plan to continue spending at least 50% of its budget on services to those described above.
The Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition unites local nonprofits to amplify their voices, providing a platform to collectively raise awareness. "The Coalition is critical to our community in promoting and amplifying the voices of organizations big or small. It helps 'US' echo our mission and vision to and for our communities," shared Mark Cox, Director of Finance for Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff.

The online portal is secure and convenient, run by the Arizona Community Foundation. After donating, the Arizona Community Foundation will provide an acknowledgement letter. Donors can use this letter when filing their state taxes or provide it to their tax professional to claim the credit. The credit is a dollar- for-dollar reduction of state tax liability, making it an easy and impactful way to support local nonprofits while managing taxes effectively.
The FTCC encourages community members to take advantage of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit by contributing to their favorite local nonprofits. Donations made by April 15, 2025, will qualify for the credit, helping both the community and taxpayers. "Making a donation to a Qualified Charitable Organization through The Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition ensures that your donation will be utilized within our community, helping our friends and neighbors when they need it most." Said Eric Wolverton, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona.
For members of the Flagstaff Tax Credit Coalition, tax credit donations are critical to providing services. These donations are leveraged by additional grant and foundation funding, enabling organizations to expand services and help local families.
