Four Week Fall STEM Enrichment Session
The Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce invites all kids 9-13 years old to join the much awaited Fall STEM Enrichment Session. STEM students participate in real world activities such as learning coding languages, programming apps, and games. Navigating through engineering challenges, see how hydrologic (water) cycle works by making a miniature model of the earth in a terrarium, building your robot from everyday materials, and getting crafty to make your own geometric kite!
Each weekly session will be virtual
Week 1 (September 27th - 30th): Sustainable Terrarium Research Project
To see how the hydrologic (water) cycle works, we will be making a miniature model of the earth in a terrarium. A terrarium is a little garden inside a clear, sealed plastic or glass container. You can plant seeds and watch them grow. We will follow the scientific method and conduct research about the terrariums throughout camp.
Week 2 (October 4th - 7th): Learning Coding Languages
Students will develop skills to decipher the technological world of coding! We will focus on conquering the basics with interactive coding tutorials and walkthroughs. Then we will work on creating awesome websites, flash games, and more! Build on your code skills with in-depth coding projects! We will be exploring HTML, JavaScript, and Python programming languages as we create apps, websites, games.
Week 3 (October 11th - 14th): Crafty Robots
Explore the exciting world of Robotics by engineering a DIY Robot! Get crafty and make your robot from everyday materials: battery-powered motors, wires, glue... the list goes on! We will be exploring the engineering design process through robot building! This activity is all about testing and developing the most efficient DIY robot!
Week 4 (October 18th - 21st): Geometric Kites
We live in Flagstaff, AZ, one of the windiest cities in the United States! We will be researching aerodynamics, geometry, and kite building in order to construct our very own geometric kites! Trust the process and we will end up with some cool looking and functional kites!
